At the Mayo Family Foundation, we are committed to creating a more informed, supported, and revitalized community along the U.S.-Mexico border. Our newest initiative is designed to address the multifaceted challenges faced by these communities, focusing on education, economic development, and law enforcement support. By providing a holistic approach to border issues, we aim to foster long-term solutions that uplift both sides of the border and create opportunities for growth and stability.
The challenges facing border communities go beyond just immigration and law enforcement. They encompass a lack of resources for education, limited economic opportunities, and the need for comprehensive support services. To address these issues, our initiative combines philanthropy, community development, and law enforcement collaboration to create a sustainable model for growth and revitalization.
One of the first projects we are proud to announce is the creation of a Boys and Girls Club in Douglas, Arizona. This facility supports a portion of the approximately 3,000 school-age children who cross the border daily to attend school on the U.S. side. The club will provide a safe, nurturing environment for these children, offering after-school programs, mentorship, and enrichment activities to support their educational and personal development.
Additionally, we are partnering with the Cochise County Care Team, which provides health and wellness services to those identified by local law enforcement. By collaborating with this team, we can ensure that individuals in need receive proper mental health care and support, addressing both immediate health concerns and long-term well-being.
The Mayo Family Foundation believes in the power of collaboration. Through our strategic partnerships with law enforcement, community organizations, and local leaders, we are creating a model of support and development that can be replicated in other border communities. Our goal is to ensure that both the U.S. and Mexico sides of the border thrive through education, economic growth, and a well-coordinated approach to law enforcement.
As we continue to grow this initiative, we invite you to join us in supporting these communities. Together, we can make a lasting impact and help create a brighter future for the children, families, and businesses along the border.
Your support can help us provide safety, mentorship, and opportunity to thousands of children and families.
In 2021, the Mayo Family Foundation orchestrated the largest public-private partnership rescue effort out of Afghanistan. In just 147 hours, we successfully rescued 147 Afghan women who are now settled in the United States. Our foundation actively manages their cases. Join us in commemorating the two-year withdrawal anniversary without media tour.
Afghan Girls Next Chapter (AGNC) is an inspiring initiative that amplifies the voices of Afghan women who have long been marginalized and silenced. Rescued from the clutches of the Taliban, these courageous women were once denied opportunities, education, and basic human rights. Today, they thrive as scholars in the United States, a transformation made possible by the invaluable support of the Mayo Family Foundation, which facilitated their journey from Afghanistan to the U.S.
These women deserves a platform where they can share their stories, experiences, and aspirations with the world, and AGNC is that beacon of hope. Engaging with AGNC means actively participating in spreading awareness and championing the rights and voices of Afghan women, ensuring they are heard and empowered.
